I THINK I can, I THINK I can...

SOOOO close...and yet sooooo far. I have a bit of difficulty getting the little proxy brush in there now, which seems to be the measure of progress. I'll be excited when that yardstick is floss =)
Don't think I shared the new molds-to-surgeon goal of late March? That's in large part due to not wanting to get my hopes up & holding one's breath for that long is hazardous to the health. I've heard this before. Ortho visit is the end of January and molds are to be taken at the following visit and sent off the the Great One, whose very existence I'm starting to wonder if I dreamt up long, long ago; some random night on a Percocet high.

  2. Ahah! I laughed hard at the "great one" comment... I was thinking similar thoughts the other night - wondering if my oral surgeon realized how many people dream about talking to them and getting into surgery.

  3. I'm impressed with your gap ... mine still isn't that close ... damn frustrating ... but it does move ... just a little ... just a little.

Plus here's to your moulds to surgeon ... going as planned!

  5. Okay, I posted the TMI story on the comment after yours on my blog (from 4 more days...). It's not that great of a story but I do understand curiosity, so... just for you it's there. Be sure to let me know if you read it!!! ~Elaine

  6. With some luck you'll get plaster casts of your teeth done to show your surgeon, which you then can ask to keep. I whipped mine out in a cafe and donated them to next year's Halloween window display. Great fun.

  7. Give us the run down again. What EXACTLY are they planning to do to you?

  8. Oh, and I know you probably don't want to post it here, but I am totally curious as to where in Ontario you live. I grew up in Northern NY just across the bridge from Gananoque and Kingston. HUGE Degrassi fan. I even watch the new one and I am WAY too old for that! Oh, and Mr. Dressup and the Friendly Giant! "Oh Canada"

  9. SO true, Steph. They're like the Fairy Godmother in fairy tales, the one that makes things happen...& you wait to discover whether(s)he be hero or evil villain.

For specifics Mollie, the last I was told was a segmented Lefort and Genioplasty, aka Upper jaw in 2 or 3 pieces, he wasn't sure, and moving my chin in who knows what direction. If I sound flip about the specifics it's because it keeps changing, so I'm keeping an open mind until the next OS visit. I *knew* when it all started but was also informed that final judgement would be reserved 'til the end.

I'm half way between Kingston & Toronto, so am fairly familiar with the Gananoque Bridge. The Friendly Giant was my in-laws next door neighbor until he died :)

  10. NO WAY! OMG! The Friendly Giant was awesome.

I also watched Harrigan but I have found that unless people had CKWS they have no idea what that show is. It must have been a local show. The best part about going home is getting to go to Tim Hortons! In case you can't tell I am a huge fan of Canada.

So, your surgery sounds intense. They were changing mine even in the OR. At the last minute they were going to scrub the genioplasty, but went ahead with it.

I did not have any medical problems that needed the surgery, just my appearance. It's pretty wacky-doodle now, but I just don't think about my overbite anymore, and that is an awesome feeling. I has cleared up a lot of space in my brain.

  11. Haha! Mollie I'm drinking a Tim's as I type. It becomes an addiction, that's for sure and I'm convinced they lace it with something. Quite happy to meet someone (not from Canada)who has an appreciation for the stuff, and our varied television history. I still don't get why Friendly never looked surprised to see a giraffe out his window...in CANADA! ;) (And the legend of how very un-friendly the Giant was in real life lives to this day)

There are WAY more intense surgeries out there, and I don't think mine is all that drastic (aside from the obvious sawing of bones that we all get to experience) It's just lots of little movements all over the place.

Clearing space in your brain? Priceless!

  12. Hi Kate! I'm so glad I found your post! I also checked out the other post about your progress in overbite correction. I'll be having my braces next week too, and I'm so nervous. But my two dentists (Memphis, Tennessee area) assured that I'm in good hands so I don't think there's anything I have to worry about. What about you? How's your experience with braces so far? For how long will you have to wear them? Good luck! Hope to see your results soon!
